An extrovert by nature, I felt I had so much to express to the world, and I could say things in such a fascinating, dramatic manner in my head. However, there was always stage fright, this instinctive nervousness that surfaces, independent of conscience thought, that always hampered not only my ability to express myself how I intended, but also my enjoyment of public speaking.

Jessica changed all that. I knew practice helps, but I didn’t know how best to practice. She focused me on not so much memorization or specific content, but more on structure, and how I present things. I came into each mentoring session having a shaky, unpolished speech prepared. By the time we finished, each speech had clearer focus and much more energy. By concentrating on the subject matter, my nerves became much less of an issue.

Jessica stands apart with her analytical mind. Her initial evaluations include a thorough, itemized list of even slight weaknesses in a speech. She certainly has a pleasant demeanor, but it does not hinder the substance of her critiques. She has a formula for public speaking that works. From my experience with others, it’s much more free form, inevitably giving mixed results. By adhering to Jessica’s suggestions and absorbing her insight, I cannot see how both novice and veteran speakers alike would not experience significant improvement.

Public speaking is one of my greatest fears in life.  When I was asked to give a speech for a wedding, I was terrified and conveyed my fears to fellow bridesmaid Jessica, knowing she had experience in such matters.  She went over my speech with me very thoroughly and gave constructive notes along the way.  I learned how to pause at the right moments and make better eye contact.  Once the time came to deliver the speech, I was more relaxed than I thought I would be and even ad-libbed a little, to positive results.  I have to give Jessica the credit for making me feel more at ease (it was helpful that she was in the audience and I could use her as a focal point at times).  I would recommend her to anyone who has similar anxieties!
